EXPLAINATION ABOUT THE ACADEMIC PROGRAMS AND GRADING SYSTEM AT ACADEMY OF FINANCE

To whom it may concern,

Academy of finance applies a credit system for its undergraduate programs having been implemented since 2012, which is under the Regulation No 1279/QD-HVTC issued by the Director of Academy of Finance in 2011 and based on the Regulation No 43/2007/QD – BGDDT issued by the Minister of Education and Training in 2007.  I am going to explain about the education system at Academy of Finance, especially grading and credit system, as follows:

  1. About Academic Programs and Degrees:

As a normal schedule, a full time undergraduate student at Academy of Finance is required to take a 4-year (8-semester) program in order to complete his/her study. Upon successful completion of all of the required courses, a graduation thesis and internship report, he/she will be awarded a Bachelor Degree of his/her own major.

  1. About the Grading System:

The final grade for each course is based on a 10-point scale and is rounded up or down to the nearest one decimal number and then converted into letter grade. The grade in letter will then be converted into a numeric grade in order to calculate his/her GPA.

Grading system of 10Grading system of lettersGrading system of 4

The student’s rank is based on his/her overall accumulated averrage of all of the grades:

Students who receive their GPA below 2.0 will fail to graduate.

  1. About Academic Transcript:

The following notes are for the clarification of the academic transcripts issued by Academy of Finance:

  • Credit:

Courses are measured in credits. One class hour is equal to 50 minutes and students are required to spend at least 30 hours of self-study to prepare for one credit. One credit is determined as follows:

  • To achieve 01 credit of studying theories, students are required to spend:

15 class hours x 50 minutes + 30 hours  = 42.5 (hours)

  • To achieve 01 credit of practicing or discussion, students are required to spend:

from 30 class hours x 50 minutes + 30 hours = 55 (hours) to 45 class hours x 50 minutes + 30 hours = 67.5(hours)

  • To achieve 01 credit of internship, students are required to spend:

from 45 hours to 90 hours

  • To achieve 01 credit of writing thesis, students are required to spend:

from 45 hours to 60 hours
Therefore, 01 credit is equal to 42.5 – 90 hours.
(Translating from added document “AOF’s Regulation of Education” – Article 3 – Point 6 – Page 3)

  • GPA:

GPA is calculated based on the average of the highest grades of all the courses taken by students.
